At the upcoming faculty talent show
I am going to read again.
Black Enough had its
debut there three years ago.
This year I move
away from the free verse
poetry to new forms.
First I will read this little tribute to
Gwendolyn Brooks' poem
We Real Cool*
We Your Boys
We make noise. We
break toys. We
skip naps. We
run laps. We
clear plates. We
share traits. We
crave June. We
sleep soon.

Then one prose pieces-Tattoo
That appears here
in January I think.

*We Real Cool
The Pool Players. Seven at the Golden Shovel
We real cool. We
Left school. We
Lurk late. We
Strike straight. We
Sing sin. We
Thin gin. We
Jazz June. We
Die soon.
